HIIDENVUORI

About 14 km north of Iitti Kirkonkylä on Hiidensaari in Pyhäjärvi, Hiidenvuori, called “Kymenlaakson Koli”, rises, a mountain shaped by nature. The peak of Hiidenvuori rises to a height of more than 60 meters from the surface of the Kymijoki River, dominating the landscape. Surfaces rounded and smoothed by the ice age, vertical slopes and the crack of the northwestern edge make the mountain a spectacular terrain and landscape destination to see.

Night concerts and carrying the piano to the rocky top of Hiidenvuori have a tradition of 90 years. Professor Väinö Sola and his friends organized the first music festivals in Hiidenvuori in 1914. The course of history caused long breaks in the festive tradition, which e.g. Hella Vuolijoki was maintaining in the 1930s. Towards the end of the millennium, Iitti's cultural activities revived the piano and night concerts, which are today an important part of Iitti's music festival.

MUKULANLAHTI BIRD TOWER

In the spring of 2004, the first bird towers of Kymenlaakso in Jaala and Iitti Urajärvi were opened. The six-meter Mukulanlahti bird tower is located in the Kupparinoja in Finnish terrain, about 320 m from the road leading to Kuusankoski.

The elongated trees lead to the bird tower. The bays of Pyhäjärvi and Lake Urajärvi are important resting, nesting and feeding areas for migratory birds. The area is a particularly important nesting area for demanding reed species, brown grouse (Circus aeruginosus) and collared heron (Botaurus stellaris), which nest in the area as common. The nesting waterfowl species is also abundant in the area.
